Handmade and hand screenprinted Nepalese paper combines the natural character of traditional Lokta paper with intricate decorative designs. Lokta paper is traditionally made from the long, flexible fibres of Himalayan Daphne shrubs. The bark is processed into pulp before being formed into individual sheets and dried. As the shrubs can regenerate after harvesting, Lokta has long been associated with a renewable tradition of Nepalese papermaking.
Selected papers are dyed and hand screenprinted, with floral, botanical and geometric designs applied to the handmade surface. The printing process creates rich colour and detail while allowing the natural texture of the paper to remain visible. Slight variations in colour, texture and print registration are inherent to the handmade process and contribute to each sheet's individual character.
