Steve Vaughan is predominantly a self taught artist with more than thirty years of creative practice, and has developed a multidisciplinary body of work alongside a professional career within the built environment. Guided by an intuitive and process driven approach, his practice embraces experimentation, material exploration, and the transformative potential of making.
Working across mixed media, Steve creates visual works using paint on canvas, reclaimed timber, paper, wire, and repurposed objects originally intended for other functions. Discarded furniture and salvaged materials are frequently reimagined and reconstructed, reflecting an ongoing interest in renewal, adaptation, and the expressive qualities of found materials.
Inspired by architecture, sculpture, and both performing and visual arts, Steve approaches each work as part of an evolving creative dialogue. Experimentation and failure are viewed not as setbacks, but as essential elements within the process of discovery and artistic growth.
His work has been exhibited and sold through galleries and industrial vintage spaces across Tasmania and Victoria, with artworks acquired by collectors interstate and internationally. In addition to independent exhibitions and sales, the artist has also undertaken commissioned projects, further expanding the reach of their practice.
