The 2027 Pomegranate Antique Maps Wall Calendar invites a year of exploration through the history of cartography. For centuries, explorers, merchants and military forces relied on maps to describe and navigate the world, and this considered collection celebrates that legacy through twelve richly detailed historical maps.
Though historical maps were often skillfully drawn and meticulously plotted, their layout tells only part of the story, working from anecdotal evidence and often scant geographical knowledge, early cartographers filled the gaps with imaginative and symbolic detail: mythical sea creatures, masted ships, allegorical figures and symbols of heraldry. Each month of this calendar reveals a different such map, offering as much a glimpse into the imagination of its era as into geography itself.
The calendar opens to a generous 60 x 30 cm, closing to a compact 30 x 30 cm square, with large monthly grids offering ample room to write. The week begins on Sunday throughout, with Canadian statutory holidays and lunar cycles marked, plus mini reference calendars for quick orientation across the year.
Printed on FSC certified paper using soy based inks, this calendar reflects Pomegranate's considered approach to both art and environmental responsibility. Every order is packed and shipped from the company's own warehouse in Portland, Oregon.
