With skilled hands and attention to detail, artisans combine ancient methods and contemporary practices to create beautiful, versatile, and eco-friendly paper. First, the kozo plant, also known as the paper mulberry tree, is harvested and the bark is peeled off the branches. The bark is then air-dried and sorted by age and quality. Afterwards, the strips of kozo bark are washed and soaked overnight to soften the fibres before being cooked, resulting in soft yet durable fibres. If needed, the fibres can be bleached. Once cooked, the tissue is meticulously inspected and any impurities or fibre knots are carefully removed by hand. Lastly, the kozo tissues are beaten into a fine pulp, ready for creating exquisite kozo papers.
Handmade Mesh Paper provides an engaging tactile experience that showcases the skill and precision involved in its production. The paper features a combination of raised lines of pulp and subtly textured kozo paper on top of a layer of mesh. This distinctive design makes it a truly unique choice for a variety of artistic and decorative applications.
