Awagami refers to paper from the Tokushima prefecture of Japan. This region has a heritage steeped in paper making which is highly regarded for its high quality. Awagami paper is made using traditional methods from natural fibres which undergo a meticulous process of soaking and pounding into a pulp which is spread onto screens and dried. Awagami paper has a unique texture and strength and is regarded for its ability to hold ink and paint. As such Awagami is popular among artists, calligraphers and printmakers.
